About the Job

Product Managers are the CEOs — end to end, cross functional owners and leaders — for Opower’s respective Solutions, Initiatives, and/or Products. The Product Management team works cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, Marketing and Engineering and lead the development of new and mature products that further the goals of Opower. We provide product vision, strategy, and definition as well as assist market analysis, customer segmentation, sales strategy, customer feedback, competitive analysis and sales training. We also gather product requirements, define product scope, create preliminary design concepts, and work closely with Engineering on product implementation.

As a Product Management intern at Opower, you’ll help us drive the development of new products and features designed to motivate and educate consumers to reduce their energy use. This is a excellent opportunity for an individuals seeking product management experience at a rapidly growing startup in a vibrant market.

This position is for internships in the summer of 2014. We will be accepting applications until the end of January 2014; candidates selected for the next round will be asked to complete a 2-hour homework assignment by the end of February. We will perform on-site interviews in mid-March and will extend offers by the end of March.


Specific project assignments will depend on the priorities of the team and may vary over the course of the internship.


Create product strategy and definition for a feature or initiative in one of Opower’s core solution areas, drawing on input from key stakeholders

Provide product direction and assistance (research, write user stories, etc) for a small team of engineers working on a product in implementation

Develop working relationships across the company to get things done cross-functionally

Gain a working knowledge of key technologies relevant to your projects
About You

BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field with excellent academic credentials
Exposure to programming, database design, statistics, software engineering, and project management
Ability to guide a small group and provide general direction on project tasks and schedules
Possess strong English writing and oral communicationskills
Excellent analytical skills: ability to solve problems quickly, establish frameworks, think on your feet
Experience with software product management preferred but not required
Preference for graduate students in a technical discipline or entrepreneurial-focused MBA program, but college seniors and recent graduates will be considered
